Tristan da Cunha
Part of the British overseas territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, these volcanic islands are neatly in the south Atlantic Ocean.
Only 297 people currently live on the island, which has no restaurants, hotels, or airport. Access is only via a seven day boat ride.
Road access to this area has only be made available very recently, so the 12,000 inhabitants lived in isolation.
Intrepid travellers must trek across mountains for four days, making stopovers in small villages along the way.
Greenland is already pretty isolated, and Ittoqqortoormiit is the most isolated town in the region.
Access is via helicopter from Nerlerit Inaat Airport, and there are only 450 residents.
